A group of thousand cranes is called Senbazuru in Japanese, and every year her statue is adorned with heaps of charming origami birds. Since then, a paper crane and the name of Sadako Sasaki became an international symbol of peace, while the city of Hiroshima hosts a statue of the girl releasing a paper crane into the world. She died after having made 644 cranes, but her classmates finished her legacy and buried Sadako with a wreath of 1,000 cranes to honor her. Having seen other children passing from the same disease, she understood her end is approaching and instead of her health – she wished for world peace and that children in the world will no longer suffer. Knowing she was very sick, even though she was only a girl, Sadako hoped to make the cranes to restore her health. Sadako Sasaki was a survivor of the atomic bombing at the age of two, and in 1955 she was suffering from leukemia. The legend says anyone who creates one thousand paper cranes will have their biggest wish come true. ![]() One of the most touching origami stories is the one of Sadako, a young girl from Hiroshima. And finally, the types are many – from kinetic origami, to modular, wet-folded, to kirigami – art of paper cutting. A lot of tools is used – bone folders, tweezers, rulers, even glue and scissors. Known origami techniques are usually based on several basic shapes or models, such as valley or mountain, pleat, reverse fold, squash fold, sing, square base, fish base, waterbomb and the frog base. It serves multiple purposes, always bringing the folder a lot of satisfaction. Today origami permeates the area of hobby, design, art and even mathematical calculation. He passed away in 2005 at the age of 94, after having developed a special folding system back in the 1930s, helping global origami standardization. One of the fathers of modern origami was Akira Yoshizawa. While modern origami praises the skill of folding paper without the use of cuts or glue, traditional origami, especially that kind bound to other countries than Japan, does not exclude these aids. A lot of origami models we find today are under somebody’s copyright, but this doesn’t go for the oldest forms, such as the aforementioned crane. While traditional origami was passed down through generations orally, modern origami is generally recorded in books, often developed and reinvented by contemporary designers. Still, Japanese style origami maintained its special form, meaning and charm. When the Moors entered Spain, they brought this skill with them, it spread across the Pyrenean peninsula and then across the whole of Western Europe, becoming common in the 19th century. Paper folding art was not indigenous to Japan alone, but it had appeared in Europe as well. The end of the 19th century was marked with the appearance of the name for this noble art as we know it today, switching from “orikata” to origami. In the mid eighteen-hundreds, Adachi Kazuyuki teamed up with Kaya Ragusa and issues a more elaborate textbook in origami. The first written instructions for making items out of paper date back to the late seventeen-hundreds, tracing to the famous “secret to folding one thousand cranes” book, or Senbazuru Orikata, by Akisato Rito. The progress of paper production made origami widespread and affordable, while skills and forms of paper folding developed, making it a very special form of art. Origami was developing greatly over centuries and when Edo period began with the sixteen hundreds, it has already become a leisure activity, although it kept the ceremonial purpose it originally had. Therefore, origami was intended to be used during religious ceremonies only at first. ![]() Handmade and rare, paper was a luxurious commodity, available only to the richest. Having been invented in China at the very beginning of the second century AD, paper entered Japan four centuries later, brought to the country by monks. The name of origami is derived from Japanese terms oru, which means “to fold”, and kami, meaning “paper”. Therefore, origami flowers bring us back to the bountiful history spreading across the Japanese culture, social system and all islands. But what is it that can make origami so magical, so engaging and so deeply touching? Origami is the art of paper folding similar to napkin folding from Japan. Everybody knows about origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. ![]() ![]() Or simply seed your creativity with inspiring, natural-feeling MIDI grabbed directly from the most exciting parts of your music collection. Question #1: Are LED floodlights ‘worth it’? Please remember, when comparing prices against halogen floods, that LED lights last 20 times longer and also dramatically reduce energy cost, so you make back your investment quickly. If you’ve got questions about LED floodlights then you’ve come to the right place, because today we’ll answer five common questions about LED floodlights. You can get a portable floodlight for between £30 and £70, while a solar flood will cost approximately £11. Slimline floodlights at LEDHut cost between £17 and £100 depending on their wattage. As with standard LED floodlights, portable versions have the same 50,000 hour life-spans and consume a fraction of the energy compared to halogen and metal halide floods. They’re capable of producing 4 hours of remote light before they need charged by a mains adaptor or car lighter adaptor, both of which come with the floodlight itself. At LED Hut, our portable floodlights are completely weatherproof and can be used to light small and large areas. They’re perfect if you work on the move, camping or in a garage/workshop where access to power is difficult. And they’re incredibly easy to install too. This makes them perfect for use in sheds, alleyways and hard-to-reach areas. They come with built-in sensors that detect motion and have no ongoing running costs. If you don’t require a great deal of light, or maybe you don’t have access to running power, then solar floodlights are the answer. So whether they’re placed by a swimming pool, parking lot or a garden, they’ll be safe to use all year long.Ĭan you tell me more about solar floodlights? The beauty of our LED floodlights is that they all have IP65 ratings, meaning they’re waterproof, so you can safely using them outside in all weather conditons. The visual guide below illustrates how they work: At LED Hut, the sensors on our floodlights can do all three. ![]() Obviously, you still need to consider your neighbours privacy when using the sensor. Motion and dusk-to-dawn detection is brilliant for security purposes, while a timer will ensure no energy is wasted by shutting off automatically. Some LED floodlights come with additional sensors that can detect motion, be set to remain on for a certain amount of time after detecting the motion, and can be tuned to come on at dusk. For instance, a 10 watt LED floodlight will give out the same brightness (900 lumens) as a 60 watt halogen, but it’ll consume far less energy. As with all LED lights, floodlight brightness is most accurately measured in lumens, rather than watts. These are all important factors to consider before mounting your floodlight. How much area needs to be lit up? Will you be intruding on your neighbour's property? Will you be distorting the vision of oncoming drivers? You can generally avoid the latter by making sure the floodlight is pointed downwards at a 22° angle. You need to consider a few things when choosing the brightness of your floodlights. How bright do I need my LED floodlights to be? Learn about our latest range of LED floodlights here.> There are a host of additional features available too, including motion sensors and timers, aswell as portable and solar floodlight options. They are also built to last 50,000 hours, which is far longer than their halogen counterparts. The best thing about LED floodlights in particular is that they consume a lot less energy while still giving you an amount of light that could only be matched by using a huge quantity of bulbs or less efficient halogen floodlights. LED floodlights have many uses, from security purposes to porch lighting, and can be used both domestically and commercially. Our handy guide will tell you what you need to look out for before you make your purchase. LED floodlights are great for security, working outside and reducing energy bills. ![]() ![]() ![]() Her erratic behavior is in part because she feels responsible for the death of her mother, who died after a spooked horse fell on top of her.
